Delta-8-THC Or Δ8THC Is One Of Over 100 Active Cannabinoid Compounds Found In The Cannabis Sativa Plant.
So, What Is So Special About Delta 8 THC? Stability!
What Is Delta-8 THC?
Delta 8 TetraHydroCannabinol is a “phytochemical” naturally produced by the cannabis plant. Or in other words, it is a phytocannabinoid. 1 of over 120 cannabinoids found within the hemp plant called Cannabis Sativa.
They all play a different role in the human Endocannabinoid System(ECS).
The National Cancer Institute gives the following definition:
“An analogue of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) with antiemetic, anxiolytic, appetite-stimulating, analgesic, and neuroprotective properties. [Delta-8-THC] binds to the cannabinoid G-protein coupled receptor CB1, located in the central nervous system.
This agent exhibits a lower psychotropic potency than [delta-9-THC], the primary form of THC found in cannabis.”
Delta 8 THC is proving to have several different therapeutic uses. As stated above, the NCI has discovered that Delta 8 THC may decrease anxiety, increase appetite, help with pain relief and protect nervous system components.
How Delta 8 THC Works
Delta 8 THC attaches to the CB1 receptors similar to Delta 9 THC. Something that is unique about Delta 8 THC is that it also has an affinity to the CB2 receptors. This secondary receptor attachment is believed to possibly be the cause of reduced anxiety and increased concentration that people have described when using Delta 8 THC products.
Delta 8 THC vs Delta 9 THC
Delta 8 THC specifically is chemically different than Delta 9 THC, the molecule that is psychoactive in cannabis.
Unlike Delta 9 THC, the phytochemical or cannabinoid that is psychoactive in cannabis, Delta 8 THC has a significantly lower psychoactive affect. Many people describe the effect of Delta 8 as giving them a general feeling of wellness and sometimes Bliss.
Possible uses for Delta 8 THC are now being discovered and addressed in several different publications.
Delta 8 THC has displayed anxiety reducing qualities similar to Delta 9 THC. This, according to the United States National Library of Medicine.
There still hasn’t been a robust amount of clinical data published on the subject.

But, there are several individual case reports and many anecdotal reports discussing therapeutic outcomes of Delta 8 THC on anxiety. It is believed by many clinicians that these same anti-anxiety properties also help people relax into a deeper level of sleep.
Another therapeutic Avenue is anti-nausea. In a 1995 a study published in Life Sciences, eight pediatric cancer patients were followed for over 100 weeks. The investigators found that the children using Delta 8 THC had no incidents of vomiting when Delta 8 was given 24 hours post chemo treatment.
The study also reported that there were very few side effects associated with Delta 8 THC.
Delta 8 THC Benefits?
It is believed that Delta 8 THC may be an appetite stimulant. In mammal studies, it was found that Delta 8 THC increased mouse food intake by 22% over a 50 day period.
It was also shown that Delta 8 THC increased food intake significantly more than delta 9 THC which has been approved by the FDA as a prescription for appetite stimulation for cancer patients.
Delta 8 THC, according to many anecdotes, may improve focus. Because these are based on anecdotes and not clinical studies, time will tell whether these claims will be verified. The scientific world is only beginning to study the effects of cannabinoids like Delta 8 THC.
So, the future holds the answers.
How Is Delta 8 THC Produced?
Delta 8 THC is very expensive to isolate and produce. It is almost certain that the price will come down overtime, as laboratories continue to perfect and scale their production systems.
As for now, it is important to be wary of cheap Delta 8 THC products as they are most certainly low quality and possibly produced under less than ideal conditions. It is essential to cross reference COAs when purchasing your Delta 8 THC products.
Is Delta 8 THC Legal?
If naturally extracted from hemp, Delta 8 THC is federally legal. Read More About each states Cannabinoid laws Here
The Drug Enforcement Administration (The “DEA”) states that if Delta 8 THC is derived from hemp it is legal, but if extracted from Maryjane, it’s illegal. A confusing twist for sure.
All this means is that the law set forth in the “2018 agricultural improvement act” still holds true. That no cannabinoid product may contain more than .3% of Delta 9 THC.
